These are the reasons why our society is sick

You’ve probably already REALIZED that something is wrong with our society. There are so many people who are sick. The number of people who are suffering from physical and mental health problems is RISING year after year.

Everywhere we look, there are people suffering from chronic stress, depression, anxiety, ADHD, autism, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorders, bipolar disorder, ADDICTIONS, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, STROKES, and etc., which are all mental health problems. I know quite a few people who are STRUGGLING WITH one or more of those problems. I myself sometimes struggle with anxiety.

And there are also the physical health problems, such as high-blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic pain, respiratory problems, insomnia, SKIN RASH, getting sick frequently, and many other problems caused mainly by chronic inflammation. I can check a box here too, since I’ve been having this rash on my hands for years.

But why have we become so sick? The answer is in the way we are living our lives in this modern world.

What do our bodies and minds need?

Going on a hike in Katano, Japan, on the weekend – August 2024

You see, we TEND TO forget that we are animals, and just like any other animal, we ARE WIRED TO live in and off nature because that’s where we’ve lived for thousands of years. Our bodies need the fresh air, the mineral water, and the organic food produced by nature. It’s from those things that we get the minerals and vitamins that our bodies need to function well.

Our bodies also need to move as the bodies of our ancestors moved when they lived in the forests and had to look for food every day.

Our minds need to hear the SOOTHING sounds and see the relaxing scenes of nature, such as the breeze moving the tree leaves, the birds singing, water FLOWING, because those things used to give us PEACE OF MIND and they still do.

Our minds also need space for contemplation and reflection, which is so natural and easy to do in nature.

Our bodies need to receive sunlight and have physical contact with the EARTH to function PROPERLY.

Nature is perfect! In nature, everything is connected and works in perfect harmony. And SURE ENOUGH, once we get distanced from it, our bodies and minds start to malfunction.

What are we feeding our bodies and minds with?

Those trees at the end of the street were the only trees on this street, but they were cut in order to prevent the destruction of the sidewalk

Unfortunately, it seems that somehow we’ve forgotten how dependent on nature we are. We’ve built cities with few green spaces for relaxation and little or no green at all on the streets.

INSTEAD OF breathing fresh air, we are breathing the pollution produced by cars, FACTORIES, GARBAGE, HUSBANDRY, and the chemical products that we spray on our bodies and houses.

Instead of drinking clean water, we OPT FOR drinking industrialized BEVERAGES of all kinds full of sugar, fat, and chemical preservatives. Even the bottled fruit juices are more chemical than natural.

And there are also the alcoholic drinks that people have adopted as a way of de-stressing and having fun. It’s a if it’s impossible to socialize with others and have fun without alcohol in our veins.

Oh, and there are also the places that are already suffering with WATER SHORTAGE because of POOR MANAGEMENT of WATER RESOURCES, so EVEN IF people want to drink fresh water, they can’t.

Instead of eating organic foods, we are eating things sprayed with many pesticides, A.K.A, POISON. Not to mention all the packaged foods that are more like chemical experiments than real foods. MIND YOU, all of that is approved by the regulatory agencies, SUCH AS Anvisa in Brazil and FDA in the USA.

Instead of moving our bodies, we go to work seated in a car or on a bus, we work for 8 hours seated, and we rest at home seated or LYING on the sofa. As STILL WATER GOES BAD, bodies that don’t move also deteriorate.

Instead of taking sunlight, we leave our homes early in the morning, get into our chosen mode of transportation, get to work, work indoors while the sun is out, and then leave work when it has already set. I’ve experienced living like that for a few years and it TOOK A BIG TOLL on my physical and mental health.

I remember that when I worked as a translator and proofreader for a translation agency I would look out the window and see the beautiful blue sky and the sun shining on a winter day but I just couldn’t go outside and enjoy the warmth of the sun because I was not supposed to do it. I used to wonder if I would be allowed to take breaks and go downstairs for a few minutes if I smoked. Yeah, pretty sad. And to think that most people probably find themselves in that situation as well is very upsetting.

And in our free time, instead of looking for relaxation in nature, going to parks with friends or alone to hear the quiet and relaxing sounds and seeing the soothing scenes of life in nature, giving our minds the space to contemplate and REFLECT UPON the beauty of it all, our lives, our week, our plans and etc., we stay at home SCROLLING THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA AS IF we were ON A TRANCE, GO ON SHOPPING SPREES in the mall, and go to fast food restaurants or bars to socialize with our friends.

And instead of touching the ground, we wear our shoes everywhere. Even when we are in nature. That INSULATES US FROM the Earth and prevents us from DISCHARGING all the positive ions (which are detrimental to our health) that we’ve ACQUIRED from the contact with our GADGETS into the ground and receiving the negative ions (which are beneficial to our health) that the Earth can transmit to us and that our bodies are CRAVING FOR. The science has already proven through many studies that we need to do grounding frequently, BUT STILL, few people know about it or care about it.

You see? Things are not going well. IT’S NO WONDER we are getting sick. And TO TOP IT ALL OFF, when we get physically and mentally sick, we don’t hesitate to try to cure the problem with drugs instead of trying to find a cure in nature.

The fact that we are living such unhealthy lives is the system’s fault. And, as we are born and grow up in this system, we learn to accept this way of life as normal. The problem is that most people only realize that something is wrong when they fall sick. It’s as if they wake up from a trance. That’s when they try to change things.

I myself only realized I had to change the way I was living when my anxiety started to feel serious.

Another day trip on a weekend – Shiga, Japan – September 2024

So, is it possible to change the way we live IN ORDER TO be healthier? The good news is that yes, it’s possible. There are many things that we can change from today. There are others, however, that are a bit harder to change. This is because of the way our society is structured. We’ll be talking about that in the next posts. 😉

This is an introductory post to bring your attention to the SOURCES of THE PROBLEMS WE ARE GOING THROUGH. In the next posts, I’ll be talking about each one of those categories IN MORE DEPTH.

Your homework for today is to reflect upon THE LIFE YOU ARE LEADING. Think about how you feel physically and mentally, and try to see what in your routine is preventing your body and mind from getting what they need.

It would be AWESOME if you shared your reflections with us in the comments section below. You see, when we write, it’s easier to process our thoughts, retain information, and get insights. And what we write might help others in their own reflections.

Enjoy your reflection! I’ll be LOOKING FORWARD TO reading your comment.

Bye for now and see you in the next post!
